We all literally had a blast on our first day of Hebrew School. All students thoroughly enjoyed the Shofar Factory presentation and worked real hard on making a shofar of their own - sanding, smoothing, and shellacking - check them out! Some of our students really mastered the skill of blowing that ram's horn!
Kitah Aleph learned about prayer and started coloring their own siddurim, prayer books. We spoke about the things we are thankful for. Khloe is thankful for Shul and Alex is thankful for tv. We learned about Hashem, who is our King and created this beautiful world we live in and constantly gives us everything we need or want. We know that we can ask Him for anything and speak to Him about whatever is on our mind in any language, any time.
Kitah Bet received their new siddurim, Siddur Sheli, which will reinforce their Hebrew-reading skills. Each family will receive a "Tefillah Trax" cd which coordinates with the prayer book and contains the musical version of each prayer for you to listen to, become familiar with, and practice at home or in the car. Our goal is for your child to walk into a synagogue and be comfortable and familiar with the prayers we sing, not just for now, but forever.
In our short amount of time to learn about all the customs and significance of the upcoming New Year, Rosh Hashana, we are focusing on the most important aspects. We have learned about the call of the shofar and about the special time preceding Rosh Hashana. We each made a new resolution for the new year and will be hanging it up on our Hebrew School bulletin board. Each student really contributed something special and each inspired another with their new mitzvah they will do.
