Tu B'Shvat
Tu B'shvat has arrived and CHS students were well-prepared for our super fun Tu BShvat Fruit Fiesta! Tu B'Shvat celebrates the symbolic Jewish New Year for the trees (click here for more info). In conjunction with the festival of trees, we focused on "Going Green", being economical, being kind to the earth and our environment.
Each student brought in their favorite fruit. We spoke about the "shivat Haminim" seven special fruits and grains which are]israel's main agricultural products. We enjoyed learning the Hebrew song, "Hashkeidiot Porachat", and the English version of "The Almond Trees are Blossoming." Everyone listed one special thing that trees give to us - from oxygen, to paper, to shade,to fruit. Each student came up with great ideas and then came forward to present an upcycled or recycled item from home.
We brought everyone's favorite fruits to the table and then made edible fruit art using the many colors of the fruit provided. We made the blessing and enjoyed - happy Tu Bshvat!
